Understanding IEP Accommodations

What Are Accommodations?

Accommodations are changes to how a student learns or demonstrates knowledge — without changing what they learn. They level the playing field so every student can access the general curriculum.

Accommodations vs. Modifications

Accommodations change the how, modifications change the what. For example, extra time on a test is an accommodation; reducing the number of questions is a modification. Both can appear in an IEP.

Using This Checklist

Select the accommodations that match your student's needs, add any custom items, then print or copy the list. Use it during IEP meetings, for classroom planning, or to share with general education teachers.

Need lesson drafts based on entered goals and accommodations?

Using this tool: questions and answers

How does the checklist choose which suggestions to show?

Enter a grade and subject and select at least one disability category, then generate the checklist. Suggestions are filtered by the selected disability categories and subject. Grade appears in the checklist information; it does not separately filter the suggestions. The displayed list still needs review for the individual student.

Can I add something that is missing from the list?

Yes. Each group has a field for a custom accommodation. Add your text, then check that item if you want it included in Copy Selected. A newly added custom item is not automatically checked.

What is the difference between Copy Selected and Print / PDF?

Copy Selected copies checked items with the checklist information. Print / PDF opens the browser's print flow for the checklist layout. To create a PDF, choose a PDF destination if your browser provides one. Review the print preview before saving or printing.

Does Start Over save my checklist for later?

No. Start Over returns to the form and clears checked and custom items while retaining the form selections. This tool does not save a checklist to your account. Keep a copy of information you need before starting over or leaving the page.

in a practice checklist, add a custom item called “Demo item” and check it. Copy Selected includes the checked demo item; adding it alone does not select it.
